1) PV Sindhu created history by winning the bronze medal match against China's He Bing Jiao at the Tokyo Olympics. She won the crucial encounter 21-13, 21-15 to become the first Indian woman ever to win two individual Olympic medals. 

➨ She had lost the final of the women's singles event at the 2016 Rio Olympics to settle for a silver medal.

➨Sindhu had suffered a heart-breaking loss to world no.1 Tai Tzu Ying in the semi-final on Saturday. Sindhu lost the semi-final 18-21, 12-21.


2) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch today e-RUPI, a person and purpose specific digital payment solution via video conferencing.

➨ e-RUPI is a cashless and contactless instrument for digital payment.

➨The instrument has been developed by the National Payments Corporation of India on its UPI platform, in collaboration with the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and National Health Authority.


3) The Assam Cabinet decided to constitute a Police Commission to recommend measures for improvement in policing system, their activities and deployment in the state.

4) Geo-imaging satellite for earth observation EOS-03, which would enable near real-time monitoring of natural disasters like floods and cyclones, is scheduled for launch in the third quarter of 2021.

➨EOS-03 is capable of imaging the whole country four-five times daily.

➨In addition to natural disasters, EOS-03 would also enable monitoring of water bodies, crops, vegetation condition, forest cover changes.


5) Bharat Bill Payment System, NPCI’s flagship bill payments platform that was hived off into a separate subsidiary in April, has appointed former PayU and Airtel Payments Bank executive Noopur Chaturvedi as its new chief executive officer.


6) Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Mizoram University for development of teaching programmes, R&D activities and promoting exchange of students.

8) Chandigarh has been selected as one of the 11 cities in the country to receive a support of Rs 1 crore from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for the “India Cycles4Change (C4C) Challenge”, an initiative to promote cycling, organised under the Smart Cities Mission.


9) Indian-origin British author Sunjeev Sahota is among the 13 authors longlisted for the prestigious 2021 Booker Prize for fiction for his novel 'China Room', alongside Nobel laureate Kazuo Ishiguro and Pulitzer Prize winner Richard Powers.


10) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone of a Bamboo Industrial Park at Manderdisa in Dima Hasao district. The project will be implemented with Rs. 50 crores from DoNER Ministry.

11) The central government’s fiscal deficit stood at Rs 2.74 lakh crore or 18.2 per cent of the full year’s Budget estimate at the end of June, according to data released by the Controller General of Accounts (CGA).

➨ The fiscal deficit at the end of June 2020 was 83.2 per cent of the Budget Estimates (BE) of 2020-21.
